The liturgy of the Church is simply an Ordering of our Worship. Litourgeia simply refers to public ministry- in our service, we worship and pray together, following a historic pattern that traces back to the early Church. Everything we pray or say is drawn from Scripture, and you will find many prayers are simply Scripture being prayed back to God. Our services can be found written in the traditional Book of Common Prayer. This is a historic Protestant liturgy, marrying the ancient faith and practice of the church with the truths and accessibility of the common tongue.
The primary services of the Church are the Daily Office (Morning and Evening Prayer) and the service of Holy Communion. In these, we pray together, we hear the Word of God read publicly and preached, and we receive the Means of Grace as instituted by Jesus Christ. The services follow a classically ordered rhythm of Guilt - Grace - Gratitude.
Guilt
We open with repentance, hearing the Law of God and acknowledging our failure to keep His Holy and Perfect Law. In this, we approach the Word and Worship of God with humility.
Grace
We receive Absolution, the declaration of God's forgiveness to those that come to Him with a penitent heart, freely and for the sake of Christ.
We hear the Word of God, the Gospel of salvation, and the hope we have only in Christ.
Gratitude
We then express our gratitude for this gift in thanksgiving and praise.
We have both handouts and prayerbooks available for use, but the simple answer is to just follow along! A general rule of thumb is to participate in the prayers together when invited, and to acknowledge prayers with a verbal 'Amen.' Services begin and end with responsive prayer, and at times we will pray or recite altogether, especially the Lord's Prayer, and the confession of our faith in the Apostles' Creed. At times, we will kneel and stand together, offering worship with our whole being. If that is physically difficult, there is nothing to worry about either.
